Richard Ager

Richard was admitted as a solicitor in 1981 and called to the bar in 2004, Richard specialises in Family Law and is a mediator. He is also a visiting lecturer in Child Care Law at the University of Sussex and University College Chichester.

Richard acts regularly for Local Authorities, parents and children in care and related proceedings. He is a determined and persuasive advocate who works very hard to ensure that the necessary resources across the board are utilised in each case for which he is instructed. He is particularly skilled in representing the older child direct and being able to form an empathic working relationship with them.

In private law cases, Richard is instructed in complex cases which involve fact finding hearings and/or the representation of the older child. He is particularly effective in those cases at the boundaries of public law again striving to ensure appropriate resources are provided to the family in a timely fashion.

Richard has been a governor and Chair of governors of a large primary school in West Sussex. As part of his role as governor he was responsible for special educational needs provision. He has built on this experience within his practice and deals with education cases.
